Over the last couple of months I have gone to many different restaurants, all of them have very similar services and food items. Applebee’s though has a service that has brought more attention and cliental to their restaurants. Applebee’s has introduced car side to go. This is a form of drive through that many restaurants similar to Applebee’s would have never thought of implementing. Applebee’s introduced this new service to try and keep up with an ever changing market place. This new service did not come without some concerns. They were a little worried that this new service would change their image from a sit-down restaurant to a fast food restaurant. Giving the consumer the idea that the food they were offering would not have the same quality and taste as it once did when they were strictly just a sit-down restaurant, but car side to go is a huge success. From its introduction in 2003 all Applebee’s now have incorporated it as part of their basic services they offer to consumers. Now they are even more advanced with orders being placed online. This service works as customer calls or places an order over the internet and shows up to Applebee’s parking in a designated parking spot. While sitting in this parking spot an employee will come out and greet you and ask for your name. They will then proceed to ask how you intend to pay for the food and if your going to use credit or debit cards the employee has a portable machine that allows them to scan and process the whole thing right next to your car. After the transaction is complete the employee gives you your food and you’re on the way home.
This service I feel has revolutionized the way restaurants do business. Many restaurants chains were reluctant at first when this new style of customer service came out, but now they all seem to be adding the service. I have used this service numerous times it allows you to eat a great meal from a nice restaurant without having to leave home. In today’s busy society this is an ideal way for a busy family to enjoy a relaxing meal without all the hassles of going out. Applebee’s is definitely taking the right steps to keep up with our needs as a consumer.
