Over the past weekend my girlfriend and I were at Rivertown Crossings Mall in Grandville shopping at various stores, when we decided to look at engagement rings. At Rivertown Mall there are six different jewelry stores all located next to each other. Our first stop was at Rogers and Holland to see what they would have to say about their selection.
Upon entering the store every sales person within walking distance was watching us waiting to see what we were looking for. After locating the ring that she had already picked out once a sales lady came up and started talking to us about the different features of the ring we were looking at. The lady we talked to was extremely nice but not very forthcoming with information until I gave her a price range. Then she became extremely excited and really interested in what we wanted. After listening to her talk and seeing her reaction I decided that there was no way I was going to buy a ring from Rogers and Holland.
We experienced similar behavior at all the other jewelers except for one and that was Helzberg Diamond. The gentlemen that came up to us introduced himself and asked what we were looking for. We told him the kind of ring and what size of diamond we were looking for and the salesmen then proceeded to ask a ton of questions. He asked about the color, cut, and clarity we wanted for the diamond. I had been taught about jewelry and diamonds back in high school so it had been awhile since I had heard the terminology the salesman was using. The salesman though took it upon himself to show us all the aspects of the diamond and pointed out what we were asking for. This kind of treatment was excellent and really gave me and my girlfriend the understanding of what we truly wanted.
After going to all the different jewelers I realized just how important customer service really is. Rogers and Holland could have had a potential sale if they would have had better customer service. Instead Helzberg will have the better chance of receiving my business in the future due to the manner in which their salesperson handled everything. This points out just how important customer service is to a company.
