On a recent trip to the River town Crossings Mall in Grandville, my girlfriend and I stopped into the Yankee Candle Company store. She was interested in buying a few new candles for the upcoming cold months. Upon entering the store I noticed they had a wide assortment of different fragrances to choose from. Another thing that I found interesting was that just past their fall line were Christmas themed candles. I was completely caught off guard by this due to the fact that it is not even November yet.
Once I noticed the Christmas products I went over to see if the company had started to really push the products or not. Upon a closer look they had started pushing the Christmas products already with different sales promotions and coupons. After leaving Yankee Candle I looked around the rest of the mall to see if other stores were following Yankee Candle Company. I really did not notice too many other retailers going this route just yet but I had a few managers mention that they would be after Halloween weekend.
Yankee Candle Companies product promotion idea is from what I can see to be a new norm for the upcoming Christmas season. A lot of companies are worried about our economy and the amount of money consumers are going to spend the holiday season. In order to get that jump start for the Christmas season Yankee Candle Company feels that promoting Christmas merchandise now will give them a leg up on the competition. Also from what I have heard from many consumers, people are already starting to shop for their Christmas gifts. This maybe the way this holiday season goes with the state of our economy.
